New Year. Improved Outlook.

After a few weeks of celebrating & taking a mental break, I find myself at the top of the New Year. I have never been much on New Year’s resolutions, black-eyed peas and collard greens, but I do like to reflect on the year previous. I have learned a few key lessons from last year that I can ponder.

I am going to take “no” with grace.

When you are an entrepreneur, it is hard to not take “no” personally. No is extremely hard in my business because it is not someone saying no to a product but to one’s creativity and hard work. I have learned that not every potential party or wedding or corporate event is a good fit, my creativity & style may not fit everyone’s personality, and every client will not get excited about the design. No is a fact of life whether you are a parent telling your child no for their own safety or something not working out the way you want it to. I need to realize that God always has a bigger plan. I will use each “no” to learn more and become that much stronger.

I am going to build relationships.

This is not just networking to check off a box {although some of that will always be necessary} but to create and nurture professional relationships. People will want to work with you if they trust you. When people trust you, they share your passion with those they know. I want my personality and priorities to come through in all that I write, post, say and capture. I realize that some networking events and meetings are necessary in the community but I am going to make it a priority to nurture those relationships and help those that I can.

I am going to have fun and do a little dancing.

In our everyday stresses, sometimes we just need to take a break to laugh and dance. Sometimes we need to laugh at ourselves. Everyone makes mistakes. “We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fears, we dance for hopes, we dance for screams, we are the dancers, we create the dreams.” – Albert Einstein

I am going to count my blessings.

There are blessings in everything we encounter and endure, we just need an open heart to see the blessings. I am thankful to be able to do what I love to do and have the family support in my entrepreneurship. While it is easy to get caught up in distractions and life in general, there are blessings to be seen and pondered. Through the good and the bad, I will search for the blessing and be thankful.

Bring on the New Year as we share our passion for planning whether it is in everyday life or life extraordinary. Let’s do this!
