Planning A Kids Party – Part 1

Previously I had been asked to design a party for an eight year old boy with the Hot Wheels theme. With the orange Hot Wheels car as the INSPIRATION, my wheels began turning.

Invitations were the first item on the list. I enjoy the creative side of designing the invitations as it sets the stage for the party to come. After cutting, pasting, “fonting”, and designing, the invitations were done. I originally started with the background of a checkered flag but decided I like the texture of two pieces of paper so finally decided to glue the invitation on thicker checkered scrapbook paper. Wa-la! The Emily Post Institute says that a casual party invitations should be mailed anytime from the same day to two weeks prior. With everyone’s busy schedule, I try to at least have invitations in the invitee’s hand two weeks prior to the party.

After browsing through Pinterest, through pictures of Indy and Nascar Racing, I decided on the colors for the table – black and white checkered and orange. I headed to the fabric store to look for my table linens. I quickly found the checkered fabric but the orange was much harder. I knew I just did not want orange but something that says “boy and fast” all over it. I settled on the perfect satin orange fabric to make the “flames”. What a better depiction of cars than flames? So the colors were set.

The base design was set. More to come…
